	16/12/2004	Fancy-Dress Fencing Spectacular! Fun Christmassy session where the Master of Arms trophy was handed over. The winner of this year's Master of Arms is James, followed closely by Emyr & Tall Paul. Many thanks to all who took part of the year. Next year's devious competition calendar will be posted early 2005! Further thanks to those who dressed-up for the occasion - pirates, alien, dalmatian, karate-kid, naked - you name it we've fenced it! See the photos!
	02/12/2004	Change to Monthly Comp. November's Team Epee will be held this week.
	27/11/04	Triangular & Meal. Old boys Vs Town Vs Gown fighting for the new Munro Taylor Trophy & the Town-Gown Trophy. An excellent day of fencing with around 70 participants in action. The Old Boys were victorious in the Triangular competition, but only beat the Town by 246 points to 240. In the Town Vs Gown, we were triumphant, wrestling the trophy from the university. Many thanks to all who attended and especially the Old Boys who traveled so far (particularly those who bought pistes!). Photos.

2003

First session of the year.

First session for beginners. Congratulations Kim, Elin, Seiriol & Bethan on achieving their BAF One Star Award.

Slough Open. Attended by Oliver. Men's sabre: knocked out 14-15 in the first round of DE. Men's epee: 39th out of 129. Knocked out by French chap who eventually came 2nd.

Welsh Closed Individual & Team Sabre. After a brief brush with the boys-in-blue the butchers from Aber set off to carve a name for themselves in Cardiff. In the individual event Harry & Paul went out in the first round of DE, whilst Oliver went out in the second. In an exciting team event Aber came fourth, piped to the medals by a mere 2 points! Paul's sabre was characterised by a unique epee-esqe style, the effect of which varied with the opposition - his physical and psychological presence also ruffled the odd opponent. Harry gave a solid performance, taking hits off all fencers and his shrewd tactics can be directly attributed to the team performance. Oliver's 'unorthodox ' sabre technique proved successful and at one point he managed to acquire 19 consecutive hits against an increasingly irritated opponent.

Your money or your life. Those of you who ordered stuff from the recent Blades order need to pay.

Merseyside Open. Attended by Oliver. Men's foil 23rd. Men's epee last 64.

Welsh Closed Team Foil. Aber A, consisting of Lawrence, Harry & Paul had a good start to the competition, but met stiffer competition as the day progressed, eventually they finished a creditable 5th. Aber B, consisting of Rebecca, Kim and someone poached for another team, finished 8th.

Welsh Closed Foil Championships. Both Paul and Harry fenced well in their pools wining several fights each. Unfortunately they promptly met each other in the DE. As could be expected an 'aggressive' battle ensued, with Paul the ultimate victor. Paul then met David Mansour and was defeated. Kim fenced well in the pools but due to some dubious ceding didn't progress far in the DE

Novice Foil Championships. Seiriol fenced well in a fairly large field of competitors, finishing a well deserved mid-table. Bethan WON, need I say more! So far Bethan has attended two competitions and has walked away from both with medals.

British Academy of Fencing Coaching Course. Oliver & Rebecca passed their grueling exams and are now professional coaches.

North Wales Regional Championships - Welshpool. Harry & Paul came an excellent 2nd & 3rd respectively.

Welsh Closed Epee. The A-Team of Harry, Paul and Phil came fifth against a strong field and the B-Team of Lawrence, Alun and Marc also fenced well.

Isle of White Open. Attended by Oliver. Men's foil 20th. Men's epee 7th. Team RPFHFC 2nd.

Aberystwyth Show. The Club has a stall - see Rebecca & Alun on Thursday for how you can help!

Trip to France. The Club is heading to Aberystwyth's twin-town of Saint Brieuc, France to fence the Circle de L'Epee. An excellent time was had by all with a stunning display of hospitality from our hosts. We ate and drank superbly as well as visiting many of the local sites. The fencing competition was very friendly and the foil and sabre were won by St Brieuc whilst Aberystwyth came home with the epee trophy. All participants, from both clubs, enjoyed the challenge of fencing new people and we look forward to a visit from Circle de L'Epee next year! Pictures here.

Town Vs Gown Vs Old Boys & Christmas Meal. Competition 10:00 to 16:00 Penglais School, entry of £5.00. Joint Christmas meal, black-tie (or neat) Llety Parc. A full day of fencing, with foil, epee, sabre and novice teams battling for supremacy. Sabre: town, old boys, gown. Epee: old boys, gown, town. Foil: old boys, gown, town. Novices: gown, town. Congratulations to the old boys who are the first winners of the Taylor Triangular Trophy and the gown who now have wrestled possession of the town-gown trophy from us! The Christmas party was superb, with over 70 fencers eating and drinking the night away. Pictures here.

Taylor Trophy. Former members of the UWA fencing team would like to establish an annual competition to be held in memory of Munro Taylor, coach and mentor to UWA, Aberystwyth and Mid-Wales fencing for nearly 35 years, who died recently. This competition will be between the UWA, Aberystwyth town team and former members of those clubs for a trophy in Munro's honour. Any current or former UWA fencers who may wish to donate to the Taylor Trophy fund should contact Ceridwen Davies for details.
